Policies and rules
What is the cancelation policy?
Cancel via email or online at least 30 days prior to start of the session to receive a full refund. Cancelations within 30 days of the start of the session will result in a full credit to your account. No refunds or credits once camp starts.
Do you offer partial days or weeks?
Currently we’re offering full days and weeks only, no partials.
Are there any discounts?
We currently do not have any discounts, and have priced our camps accordingly and competitively.
What should my child bring and wear?
Backpack with lunch and snacks (enough for a full active day), water bottle (filled at start of day), swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen (applied before camp and able to be applied by the camper). Comfortable active-wear that can get dirt and artwork on it, closed-toed shoes, and a hat.
Can my child bring a phone?
Our preference is that screens and other digital devices are left at home, however we know circumstances may exist where a camper needs to be in contact with their parent. Campers should have phones off and securely in backpacks and ask permission from a Counselor to call home. Parents/Guardians can reach camp directly at any time (see below).
What safety guidelines do you have in place?
All staff are trained on and practice an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) which covers injuries, pool emergencies, lightning, fire, bodily fluids, creepy strangers, and much more. Counselors will have First Aid, CPR, and communication devices on them at all times. Campers will get safety talks throughout the day, ample breaks, and each activity has its own set of safety guidelines.
What safety precautions are in place for the swim sessions?
All swim sessions are guarded by Red Cross certified lifeguards. Swim lessons are conducted in a 4:1 ratio by trained instructors who are also certified lifeguards. At the start of open swim, any swimmer who is unable to stand flat-footed in the 4’ section and have the water line be below their chin, will be swim tested. The swim test will consist of jumping into the 4’ section feet first, go underwater, resurface, do a 360-degree spin, then swim to the side and exit without help of a ladder. Campers unable to pass the swim test will remain in the 2.5’-3’ section of the pool, marked with a pool rope
What if I need to get a hold of my child while they are in camp?
In your pre-camp email will be the phone number of an on-site Camp Director. You can also call the Pacific Flow Swim School main line at 831-334-3949 and we’ll track down your camper. Please understand that as an outdoor recreation program that’s constantly on the move, communication might be delayed.
What rules are campers expected to follow?
Very simple. 1) Stay with your group & ask permission to go somewhere like the bathroom. 2) Respect Counselors, Lifeguards, and each other at all times. 3) Have fun! Make the most out of your camp experience.
When is drop off and pick up?
Drop off is in the Siltanen Parking Lot and begins at 8:30 am and camp begins at 9:00 am. Pick up is in the Siltanen Parking Lot, begins at 3:00 pm, and ends at 3:30 pm. Contact us if to see if we can accommodate a later pickup time.
What if my child needs to be picked up by someone other than me?
Please add names (with legal spelling) and phone numbers of anyone picking up your child to the Parent Portal, or let us know directly.
What are the camp counselor qualifications?
Among our Camp Directors and Counselors we have two decades of experience leading a variety of camps including multi-sport, Boy Scout/Girl Scouts, and outdoor adventure. Just like our Swim Instructors, Camp Staff are background checked, fingerprinted, registered on California Trustline, and are all Red Cross Lifeguards.
What are the camper to counselor ratios?
No greater than 6:1. 4:1 for swim lessons. Activities will be either All Camp (24 Campers), Half Camp (12 Campers), or in Small Group (6 Campers).
What if my child is younger than 5 or older than 12?
Contact us for options for camp for teens. For kids under 5, we have Jumpstart swim lessons, but not Swim and Sports Camp.
How are campers grouped and can my child request to be with a friend or sibling?
Grouped by age and yes, let us know who your camper would like to be with.
Let us know what you need and we’ll do whatever we can to accommodate. We’ll need written permission to assist (not administer) any medication, and medication needs to be clearly labeled, with instructions, in a waterproof bag. Though we don’t carry them on us, Counselors are trained to administer epinephrine, albuterol, and naloxone in emergency situations.
Grouped by age and yes, let us know who your camper would like to be with.
What if my camper can’t make a camp day?
Please mark them out in the Parent Portal or contact us directly.
How do you handle sunscreen?
Please apply sunscreen to your child before camp, and send them with sunscreen that they can apply themselves. Counselors will assist (squeeze lotion into the camper’s hand, spray them with aerosol) but not apply sunscreen with hands on.
How do bathroom trips and changing in and out of swimwear work?
Counselors will take campers to the bathroom and to change in small groups. Counselors will operate in male/female pairs, wait outside for campers, and listen for and check on behavior in the bathrooms. Campers should change in and out of swimsuits with minimal help (i.e adjusting a strap, tying strings, etc) from Counselors.
Will my child improve on their main competitive sport?
If their sport is on our agenda for the week, one of our goals will be skill improvement. However, our focus is recreation, which means trying something new, improving teamwork and communication, playing not just skillfully but creatively, and most of all—FUN!
My child has never played sports; is this ok?
Yes! Our camps are the perfect opportunity for trying sports out.
Why Choose PacFlow Swim & Sports Camp
You Know Us
The same standards we apply to running Pacific Flow Swim School apply to our camps. In fact, most of our counselors are familiar swim instructors. Among our Camp Directors and Counselors, we have two decades of experience leading a variety of camps, including multi-sport, Boy Scout/Girl Scouts, and outdoor adventure. Just like our Swim Instructors, Camp Staff are background checked, fingerprinted, registered on California Trustline, and are all Red Cross Lifeguards.
Swimming and Nature.
There are several amazing local multi-sport camps in Santa Cruz County. What sets PacFlow Swim & Sports Camp apart is our addition of 3+ swim lessons per week and 3+ open swim sessions per week. Additionally, we’re working with the Santa Cruz Land Trust and using our own expertise to create some meaningful time hiking in the Glenwood East Preserve.
Variety
Team sports that we know are fun will always be a part of our camps. But we’re also adding unique opportunities for our campers to try and excel at something NEW like yoga, water polo, dance party, lifeguarding, ultimate frisbee, capture the flag, and more.
The Camp Experience
It’s hard to get into a state of flow when you’re zooming from one activity to the next. Though our days will be filled with activities, campers will also have time to slow down, reflect, make friends, and create community. One of our goals is for campers to come home tired.
